Professional Dog Training & Behavior Modification in New Jersey
At American Canine Coach, we work with dog owners across New Jersey to achieve real, lasting results through professional dog training and behavior modification. Whether you are dealing with pulling on the leash, aggression, separation anxiety, or a dog that simply will not listen, we provide structured training programs designed for real-world success.
We are not a big-box pet store class. American Canine Coach is a dedicated dog trainer operation built on a balanced, holistic approach to obedience and behavior modification. That means we use what actually works for your dog, drawing from proven methods, clear communication, and consistent structure that dogs understand. Our goal is not just a dog that performs in a training session. Our goal is a dog that behaves in your home, on your street, and in your life.
Every dog that comes through our program is treated like our own. Because we are dog owners too, we know exactly what it means to love an animal and still feel overwhelmed by its behavior.
We proudly provide professional dog training services throughout New Jersey, including, South Jersey dog training, Margate City dog training, Cherry Hill dog training, and surrounding communities.
Our Professional Dog Training Packages
At American Canine Coach, we offer several training programs tailored to your dog’s needs and lifestyle. Whether you have a new puppy or an adult dog with serious behavior issues, there is a path forward.
Board and Train Program
Our board-and-train programs provide an immersive training experience designed to build reliable obedience, better behavior, and clear communication. Dogs live and train with us daily while working through structured routines tailored to their specific needs and temperament.
These programs are ideal for dogs struggling with obedience issues, leash pulling, reactivity, aggression, anxiety, impulse control, and other behavioral challenges. Throughout the program, owners receive guidance, progress updates, and a detailed transition process to ensure training carries over successfully at home.
At American Canine Coach, our goal is not temporary results. We focus on creating lasting behavior change that improves everyday life for both dogs and owners.
Dog and Puppy Behavior Modification
For dogs struggling with aggression, reactivity, severe anxiety, resource guarding, excessive barking, or other difficult behaviors, our behavior modification programs are designed to create clear structure, better communication, and reliable results.
At American Canine Coach, we focus on identifying the root cause of unwanted behavior instead of simply masking symptoms. Through balanced training methods, consistency, and real-world obedience work, we help dogs develop calmer behavior, improved impulse control, and more reliable responses in everyday situations.
Our goal is to help both dogs and owners build a safer, more manageable, and more confident relationship together.
Puppy Training
Starting training early makes a huge difference in your puppy’s long-term behavior and development. Our puppy training programs focus on building a strong foundation in obedience, house training, crate training, socialization, impulse control, and confidence.
At American Canine Coach, we help puppies develop reliable behaviors and healthy habits before unwanted behaviors become long-term problems. Through structured training and clear communication, we set puppies and owners up for long-term success both at home and in everyday life.
Scheduled One-On-One Lessons
Our one-on-one private dog training lessons provide focused, distraction-free sessions designed to address specific behavior issues or strengthen existing obedience skills. Each lesson is tailored to your dog’s individual needs, temperament, and training goals.
Sessions are available both at our training facility and through in-home dog training lessons, giving owners practical guidance they can apply immediately in everyday situations.
Whether you are working on obedience, leash manners, reactivity, or behavior modification, our private lessons are designed to create clearer communication and lasting results.
Our Approach
Dog training is not one-size-fits-all. Different dogs learn differently, and what works for a confident adult dog may not work for a fearful rescue or a high-drive working breed. That is why we take a balanced approach to every dog we work with, regardless of breed, the dog’s age, or history.
We use positive reinforcement as a core part of our training, rewarding the behaviors we want to see more of. At the same time, we believe that a truly balanced approach means giving dogs clear information about what is expected, not just marking the good and ignoring the rest. Dogs thrive with structure. They are less anxious, more confident, and easier to live with when they understand their boundaries.
We do not believe in dangerous methods involving force or intimidation. We do believe in being direct, consistent, and thorough, which is exactly how we produce the consistent results our clients see.
Our training is grounded in an understanding of how dogs actually learn, combining practical, hands-on experience with a commitment to each dog’s well-being. The result is a training process that works in the real world, not just in a controlled environment.
What Dog Owners Are Saying
The reviews speak for themselves. Dog owners across NJ come to us frustrated, and they leave with a dog they can actually enjoy.
How It Works
Getting started is straightforward. Here is what the process looks like from first contact to long-term results.
Step 1: Evaluation. We start by understanding your dog and your training goals. In your first session or consultation, we assess your dog’s behavior, temperament, and your training needs as an owner. No assumptions. Just an honest look at where things are and what is achievable.
Step 2: Structured Training. Whether your dog joins a board-and-train program, attends private lessons, or enters a behavior-modification track, every day is built around clear, consistent work. Dogs respond to structure, and we build it deliberately from the beginning.
Step 3: Transition and Support Training does not end when your dog comes home. We equip owners with every tool, technique, and follow-up resource needed to maintain and build on results. Your consistency at home is what turns a trained dog into a reliable one, and we set you up for exactly that.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a board and train program take?
Most board-and-train programs run for two weeks. That is enough time to build reliable obedience, address core behavior issues, and establish the structure your dog needs. Before your dog comes home, we walk you through every command, tool, and daily practice routine so results carry over. You also receive video updates throughout the program, so you arrive at pickup already knowing your dog’s progress.
Can you train a dog with aggression or severe anxiety?
Yes. Behavior modification for dogs with aggression, reactivity, severe anxiety, separation anxiety, and resource guarding is one of our core specialties in NJ. Edward trained directly under Jeff Gellman at his Aggressive Dog Workshop and completed his mentorship program, giving him hands-on experience with some of the most serious behavior cases a dog trainer encounters. We assess every dog individually before recommending a program.
Does my dog's age affect training?
No. Dogs learn at every age, and we work with all of them, from eight-week-old puppies to adult dogs with years of ingrained habits. Starting puppy training early builds basic obedience and impulse control before problems develop. For older dogs, the right training methods and consistent practice produce real behavioral change regardless of history. The first session alone often surprises owners who assumed their dog was beyond help.
What is the difference between private lessons and board and train?
Private lessons put you in the session with your dog from day one. You learn the techniques directly and apply them in real time. This suits dog owners who want to be hands-on or whose dogs have moderate behavior issues. Board and train is better for dogs with more serious behavior problems, owners with limited time, or situations where intensive daily structure produces faster results. Not sure which fits your dog? Contact us, and we will tell you honestly.
Ready to See Real Change?
If you are frustrated with your dog’s behavior, you are not alone, and you do not have to figure it out on your own. We work with dogs and families across NJ every day, and we know what it takes to get real, lasting results.
Your pup deserves clear guidance. You deserve a dog you can enjoy.
